Soft shackles at half an inch are sized to match a rope of this class. Check the shackle against the recovery point you loop it through, not just against the rope.
Kinetic recovery is a rolling pull. Take up the slack, back off a few feet, and go in gently. Hitting the rope at speed is how hardware gets torn off bumpers.
